Preparing for your Interior House Painting Project

One of the most important aspects of interior painting is that you are prepared for the painting crew to move through your home. You know what works best for you and your family, so think about what order you would like your rooms painted ahead of time.

Do - Prep the Space!

Once your painting project is scheduled, take some time to prep the space before the painting team arrives. Pack away breakables or other items you want safely out of the way and give the space a nice cleaning to minimize lingering dust. We will clean our work area for you.

Do - Choose Colors Carefully!

We strongly encourage you to take sufficient time to decide on paint colors before getting started with your project. Keep in mind that the paint in your home will greatly affect the look and feel of your space, and in turn can influence your mood and the way you feel while in a room. We are always happy to make suggestions on paint colors, but recommend that you take some time to gather paint swatches, see how they look in different lights, and evaluate what color will be the best fit for your desired outcome. Small sample colors are available for purchase at the Sherwin Williams paint stores to assist you.

Don’t - Close off Rooms

When painting is finished for the day, it may be tempting to shut the doors to the rooms that have been painted to prevent odors from escaping. While in some cases it may be necessary to leave doors closed in order to keep pets and children outside of the room, if you are able to, it’s best to leave doors open to allow air to ventilate the space and help the paint dry more quickly. Here at Tegrey Family of Coatings, Inc., we use low-odor paints for all of our projects, so extreme odor should never be a problem!

Don’t - Dispose of Paint Irresponsibly

Our professional painting crew will clean up after themselves once your project is complete, including removing any unused paint. However, if you do hang on to any extra paint for later touch ups, you’ll want to make sure that it is stored properly and ultimately disposed of safely once you no longer need it. Contact a local hazardous waste recycling center for more information.
